The ‘Network Anubhav Platform’ brings greater transparency to observed network tests conducted by consumers and TRAI

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday launched the ‘Network Anubhav Platform’ -- a geospatial and analytical dashboard that brings together consumer-generated speed and call test data along with the regulator's own independent drive test results.

The platform also provides a Do Not Disturb (DND) web interface. User test data comprises the test results from MySpeed and MyCall apps of TRAI. The platform delivers insights on various network parameters to consumers, service providers and TRAI, the regulator said.

Consumers can view test results on interactive maps, sorted by cellular or fixed broadband, and it is further segregated service provider-wise and technology-wise, based on parameters, including download and upload speeds.

The platform reports percentile values calculated from tests conducted by users in a given area. “Though these values based on user tests do not represent a comprehensive assessment of network quality based on standard methodology, they provide valuable information to users regarding the experience of other users at various locations,” TRAI said.

Telecom service providers (TSPs) can access call quality, coverage and Internet test data, including location, date and time, through a secure interface. TRAI said the telcos can also use it to identify problem areas and improve their networks.

“The ‘Network Anubhav Platform’ brings greater transparency to observed network tests conducted by consumers and TRAI. It empowers consumers to analyse location and service provider specific tests, enables TSPs to identify areas for network optimisation and strengthens TRAl’s efforts for network improvement,” Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman, TRAI, said.

Consumers are encouraged to contribute regularly through the TRAI MySpeed and MyCall apps. Wider participation will improve the coverage and utility of the platform’s information, he added.
