QatarEnergy has placed a 20-year order for up to three million metric tons per annum (MMtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Woodside Energy Group Ltd's under-construction project on the United States Gulf Coast.
QatarEnergy's offtake for Louisiana LNG "represents a significant step in building the project's long-term customer base", Woodside chief executive and managing director Liz Westcott said in an online statement.
The Australian LNG-focused oil and gas explorer and producer will deliver the LNG to state-owned QatarEnergy free on board starting from the commencement of operations at Louisiana LNG's second train. The unspecified initial supply will increase to three MMtpa from the start-up of train 3.
QatarEnergy said separately it expects to begin receiving cargoes in 2030.
"These additional volumes make QatarEnergy the largest buyer of LNG from the U.S., and place us in a stronger position to meet the global growing needs for LNG", said QatarEnergy president and CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaab, who is also Qatar's energy minister.
Westcott said, "The agreement builds on the previously announced Uniper agreement. Together, these contracts provide sustained revenue certainty for a material portion of Louisiana LNG production as we progress the project towards first LNG".
German state-owned power and gas utility Uniper has committed to one MMtpa for 13 years from Louisiana LNG. The agreement also secures an additional supply of up to one MMtpa from the rest of Woodside's global portfolio from the start of Louisiana LNG's operation to 2039.

Woodside said in its report for the third quarter of 2026 the project remains on budget and on track to start production 2029. "It is 32 percent complete with train 1 41 percent complete", stated the report last month.
Woodside announced a $17.5-billion final investment decision on phase 1 in April 2025. Phase 1 is planned to have three liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 16.5 MMtpa.
Louisiana LNG holds a permit from the United States Department of Energy to export a cumulative 1.42 trillion cubic feet a year of natural gas equivalent, or 27.6 MMtpa of LNG, to both countries with a free trade agreement (FTA) with the U.S. and non-FTA countries.
Earlier in 2026 Williams Companies Inc acquired stakes in Louisiana LNG and the associated pipeline. Woodside sold 10 percent in Louisiana LNG LLC (HoldCo) and an 80 percent interest and operatorship of Driftwood Pipeline LLC (PipelineCo).
The partners expect Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Williams to invest $1.9 billion. "As part of the investment in Louisiana LNG, Williams assumes LNG offtake obligations for 10 percent of produced volumes", Woodside said October 23, 2025.
"Williams' total share of LNG production from Louisiana LNG will be 1.6 million tonnes per annum. This LNG production will be supplied to Williams under an LNG SPA [sale and purchase agreement] for approximately 1.5 Mtpa [million metric tons per annum] and Williams will also receive the proportionate benefit (10 percent) of the Louisiana LNG 1.0 Mtpa SPA previously signed with Uniper", Woodside said.
"Woodside's total capital expenditure for the Louisiana LNG Project is now expected to be $9.9 billion, reduced from $11.8 billion at final investment decision", Woodside added.
Williams will build and operate the Line 200 pipeline, part of the Driftwood Pipeline project, to the LNG terminal, according to the statement.
Woodside retains a 90 percent stake in HoldCo. HoldCo owns 60 percent in Louisiana LNG Infrastructure LLC, with the remainder owned by New York City-based Stonepeak Partners LP. Woodside also retains 20 percent in Pipeline Co.
